I wrote 2 of the 5 books for Capstone’s Decoding the Mind series. School Library Journal called the series "well-written, fact-filled, eye-catching, and conversation-provoking." These books promote emotional literacy by exploring the science behind why we experience different emotions.

Official blurb: Is there someone you can't stop thinking about? Just a friend or is it a crush? Could all those heart-pounding feelings even be love? Where do these emotions come from? The answer is in the science of affection! From enjoying the bond of family and friends or the smallest flutters in your stomach to the gooiest, mushiest of loves, middle school is a time when you get ALL. THE. FEELS. But next time you or your friends feel all warm and fuzzy, you'll understand what's really going on in your brains. Plus, you'll learn tips to decode what's happening in your body and find out how to strengthen your self-love. Mental health is as important as your heart, so when affectionate behaviors and feelings have crossed the line, you'll also learn when it's time to reach out for help. For ages 10 - 14.

We all have deep values, things that guide us. Reflecting on those values puts you in touch with your best self. It reminds you of who you are. If self-love is a foundation, then your values are the cornerstones—the pieces everything else is built upon.

Official Blurb: Do you tear up watching a sappy commercial? Or hold back sniffles when your best friend suddenly ignores you? Maybe you sometimes just get a case of the blues you can't seem to shake. Have you wondered why? The answer is in the science behind unhappiness! Whether you keep your tears bottled up or sometimes let it all out, middle school is a time when you get ALL. THE. FEELS. But next time you or your friends have a good cry, you'll understand what's really going on in your brains. Plus, you'll learn tips to decode what's happening in your body and find out how tears can sometimes be helpful. But mental health is still important, so when tearfulness or sad feelings have crossed the line, you'll also learn when it's time to reach out for help.

“Crying is one of the few distinctively human traits (like blushing). That’s a clue that crying, on a very basic level, has something to do with being human. By learning about crying we can learn more about what it means to be human.”
